About Clear Spring Therapy

I’m Caroline Lower, a Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist, Chronic Pain Therapist, and Pain Reprocessing Therapist, with over 30 years’ experience in palliative care, including CEO of Hospice services..
I began my career as a nurse, and I also bring personal experience of living with chronic pain. I understand how persistent pain can diminish confidence, drain resilience and quietly erode hope.
My approach combines 4 main approaches:

  • Pain Reprocessing Therapy which retrains the brain to stop generating the sensation of pain.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to address fear, beliefs and attention patterns
  • Hypnotherapy to calm the nervous system.
  • Body and somatic awareness to rebuild trust in the body.

Sessions are calm, collaborative and practical. There is no pressure to “push through” pain or revisit distressing memories. The focus is on cultivating safety, restoring clarity and helping you take control again.

8 steps to recovery

This programme is designed to take you through the stages of brain training and provide you with techniques which will assist you on your journey into freedom from chronic pain or debilitating symptoms.

1Understanding Pain Differently

Learn what pain actually is, how the brain and nervous system are involved, and why pain can persist even when the body has healed.

2Calming the Nervous System

Discover how to settle an over-protective nervous system and begin resetting your body out of constant alert and threat.

3Changing the Pain Cycle

Learn techniques that reduce the intensity and frequency of pain — and in many cases help pain resolve completely — by retraining pain pathways.

4Stress, Emotions and Pain

Understand how stress, anxiety, and emotions can amplify pain signals, and learn safer ways to work with them.

5Thoughts, Beliefs and Behaviour

Identify unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours that may be keeping pain going — and learn more supportive alternatives.

6Rest, Sleep and Recovery

Improve sleep quality and learn deep relaxation techniques that allow true physical and nervous system recovery.

7Values, Meaning and Direction

Reconnect with what matters most to you and begin shaping a life guided by values — not pain.

8Living Well Beyond Pain

Create sustainable daily routines that support long-term recovery, resilience, and wellbeing.
