Hypnosis

Hypnosis can often bring to mind the image of a stage performer casting a spell over a passive volunteer.  But in fact, hypnosis is an active state that is controlled by the individual not the hypnotist.  Hypnosis can be thought of as a controlled daydream.

Hypnosis is helpful because it allows your body and mind to respond to thoughts as though they were real.  By learning to focus your mind in this way, you can learn to get relief from painful or unpleasant thoughts, feelings, and sensations.  Therefore, hypnosis can be a very powerful tool in relieving symptoms of depression and anxiety.

In medical conditions, hypnosis can also be helpful as an adjunct to traditional medical treatment.  For example, hypnosis has been found to be helpful in alleviating cancer pain, reducing post-operative pain, and relieving symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
